KANGEIKO 2026
SANTA MONICA DOJO
Kangeiko 2026 is also a fundraiser.
Santa Monica Dojo is blessed with a “sprung” wood floor. Such floors consist of a hardwood surface over a hollow space or shock-absorbing subfloor. This is ideal for dance, gymnastics or martial arts, as it helps reduce the risk of injuries and enhances performance.

However, natural wood floors must be sanded and waxed from time to time, and cracks must be filled in and repaired. Several years have now passed since this was last done, and it is time for maintenance.
The Community Karate Foundation (the non-profit organization operating the dojo) is in the process of obtaining estimates from licensed contractors. Unfortunately, it looks like the costs for floor refurbishment will fall within a range between $5,000 and $7,500. (This is California, after all). Since there is no way we can cover this amount from student tuitions, we must rely on donations to raise the necessary funds.
And so, here comes our appeal for help!
This dojo floor was constructed by students – literally! Since then, it has carried tens of thousands of hours of training, competitions, exams, and social events. It has absorbed our blood, sweat, and tears, and witnessed both triumph and tragedy. This wood has been carrying our weight and burdens for decades. Will you please help us to show it some love and care?
